Informative Speech Woodstock

So first thing is first, I think I did an OK job, but i felt it wasn't as good as the narrative speech. I was more prepared for the narrative speech and this speech, and I could tell while I was speaking, and I bet the audience could tell too. I should have reviewed the speech more and that would have prevented the "umms" and the pauses, because at some points, I just felt lost. It was a topic that really interested me so I just feel that I should have not only presented it better, but researched it better, and found ways to better explain the point that I was trying to show. Anyways, hopefully i'll make it up on the next speech.

Today I made my first real speech in class. After being nervous about it last class, I came this morning not nervous at all. I had a tough speech to follow, but once I started talking, I think I did fine. I was fidgeting around a bit, but I tried hard to make eye contact and correctly annunciate my words. One thing I tried hard to do was to use pauses correctly, and I feel that I did that pretty well. I also thought I used repetition well, to enforce my point. Well after the nerves I had for the grab-bag speech, I thought I was calm and collective. It really wasn't as bad as I expected.

I'm pretty worried about my speech coming up. My main goal it to try to get through the speech without stuttering and losing thought. I think that this will be easier now that I have an outline in front of me. As far as my argument goes, I think I have a good story to persuade the audience to my side of the issue. The thing I'm most worried about is speaking clearly. Sometimes I tend to mumble and that confuses the people I'm talking to. I also plan to use appropriate hand motions and use pauses correctly, but what I'm planning to do now might not go through well on Monday. All in all, I think I will do OK.

Hi, my name is Al Carpenito, I'm from Billerica, MA and my major is TV/Video. I play in a band called Lucy Grace, which consumes most of my weekends, you can check us out at www.myspace.com/lucygrace.

So I really don't like public speaking, and the thought of talking in front of the whole class has scared me since I saw my schedule last semester. It's not the fact that there are many people around, I'm scared because I'm afraid I will mess up. The hardest thing for me is to just speak without doing any research. I hope to achieve the confidence to be able to get up and talk about any subject in front of people, whether it be a prepared speech or not. I also hope to learn the skills necessary to develop and deliver a great speech.
